Marriott Ultimate Reservation Guarantee
There are many benefits of having hotel elite status, such as, free breakfast, free lounge access, free upgrades, higher rate of point earning, late checkout and much more. Marriott’s Ultimate Reservation Guarantee is a policy that guarantee’s if you book a room you will either have a room at the hotel you booked or they will put you up at a nearby hotel. Depending on your level of status, you can also be compensated with upto $200 and 140,000 Bonvoy Points.
The minimum status level to receive this benefit is Marriott Bonvoy Silver Status. Having Platinum, Titanium or Ambassador Status would enable you to earn the maximum amount of compensation
At the hotel brands in the first group below members with Silver status will receive $200 and 90,000 Bonvoy points. At the hotels in the second group, only Platinum and Titanium members receive the 90,000 points. At the Ritz Carlton and St. Regis only Titanium and Ambassador members receive the $200 and 140,000 points.
In order to get Elite Status you will need a certain number of hotel stays per calendar year depending on the status level. There are some shortcuts to earning status. You can get Marriott Gold Elite Status as a benefit of being an American Express Platinum card holder. Another option would be applying for a personal or business Marriott credit card. Being a personal Marriott credit card holder would give you 15 Elite Nights Per year and if you also applied for The Bonvoy business card, you would receive a total of 30 Elite Nights. One note to mention would be if you obtained Gold status from the Platinum card, you would still need to earn 50 Elite Nights to earn the night highest status, Platinum. My recommendation is to apply for the American Express Bonvoy Brilliant card,
I consider the Bonvoy Brilliant card to be the best Hotel credit card currently. It has an annual fee of $450 but they benefits represent a total value of over $1,600. It has a $300 Statement Credit per year that can be used at any Marriott property. That effectively lowers the annual fee to $150. You will also receive complimentary Gold Elite Status. There is a $100 property credit at Ritz-Carlton and St Regis. After the first year you will earn a 50,000 point Free Night Certificate that can be used at any Marriott property. There is currently a signup bonus offering 75,000 Bonvoy points and a $200 Statement Credit after spending $3,000 on the card in the first three months.
If you do get ‘walked’ at a Marriott hotel and they are not able to honor your reservation make sure you reference this policy and request to be accommodated at another hotel and the $100 to $200 credit and 90,000 to 140,000 Bonvoy points depending on the Category level and your Elite Status Level. It is common for hotels to try to ignore this policy and a call to Marriott customer service could be necessary. I mentioned in my recent post about my review of The Element Knoxville about the amazing deal I got for a stay coming up in April. It was so cheap it could have been an error fare. If they choose to cancel my reservation, I will make them aware of this policy and ask to put up in at another hotel and $100 and 90,000 Bonvoy points.
